Not every incident is finished the moment it's first logged. A log entry lets you add a timestamped update to an existing report as the situation develops, rather than editing the original text and losing the sequence of events.
Use a log entry for anything that happens after the initial report — a follow-up action, a change in status, new information — and edit the original report only for a correction to what was already recorded. Each entry's timestamp builds a clear timeline anyone reviewing the incident can follow.
If a witness needs to provide their own account, send a statement request from the incident page. The recipient gets an email with a link to submit their statement directly — no E-DOB account or login required.
